Today, my wife and I got the chance to re-visit Taman Melawati, Ulu Klang, Selangor, for purpose of fulfilling our uncontrollable orchestrated sounds of our hungry stomachs. Our destination was quickly established as we’re rather familiar with the various cuisines served and sold in this area (my wife being a native of Melawati, and I had spent a fraction of my teenage years here). We decided to re-visit Uncle Chicken Rice stall (Displayed Sign Board: Nasi Ayam Hainan). It’s located on Lot B27, Taman Melawati’s New Food Court, Jalan Negara (Next to Hamid’s Mee Rebus Penang).
Let me tell you about this Chicken Rice. They started their business way back in 1995, and they’ve been the talk of Melawati since then. For Muslims, this is a Halal outlet. The rice is totally outstanding and different from those I’ve tasted anywhere else. Its not white or light yellowish in colour (as commonly found), rather of an off-brown colour. Tasting the rice made me assume that it was cooked using a broth comprising of chicken stock with mashed chicken gizzard, and a dash of sesame oil.. Giving an out-of-this-world taste and an aromatic smell.
The roasted chicken, (also available in steamed cooked version) is simply mouth watering as the skin is golden dark brown crispy and flavourful. Matched the rice, chicken and its home made sweet soya solution, and you’re almost in heaven. Compliment this dish with its long beans vegetable side dish and top it up with its home made Jelly-grass drink.. Then you’ve safely arrived in heaven..
As for pricing, our bill came up to RM 15.90 (roughly RM 7.95, including 2 additional side dishes), way cheaper compared to the widely commercialised outlets.. For that price, it’s darn cheap to get to the culinary heaven..
