Food Review: Bumbu Desa @ The Curve

Had the opportunity to try out Indonesia’s leading restaurant chain today, Bumbu Desa, located at LotG-49, The Curve, Mutiara Damansara. Well, at least, that’s what they displayed at the store front..

The first thing that I noticed about the store is the seats.. After sitting on it, it confirms my suspicion.. Its darn comfortable. The decor was of authentic Sundanese, with occasional tweeting of Sundanese folk songs in the background. As a smoker, I obliged taking seat at the corridor, amidst passers by taking glimpse of what we had ordered. Talking about order, we called for an array of 6 ala-carte dishes that went along with a bowl of nasi-lemak like rice, but was told by the staff that it was prepared without the coconut milk.. Interesting..

We ordered Asam Pedas Ikan Patin, Pucuk Paku Masak Lemak, Paru Goreng, Daging Rendang, Lotek (Salad served with spicy peanut sauce) and spicy fried Kangkung, complimented with a glass of ice water and Iced Coffee for the after-meal trance.. My mother ordered their Lemon Tea, which she complaint to be much too sour..

Overall, of all the dishes, the rice, Lotek and the Daging Rendang stood out, with above-above-average (yes, double aboves) tastes, balance and portion.

Another thing that stood out like a sore thumb is the Bangladeshi staff, fully dressed in traditional Sundanese outfit.. We reasoned that probably his ancestors were from Sunda-Indonesia..

Other than that, it was a pleasurable late lunch with my wife and mother, but the culinary experience did not earn a special place in my heart nor on the Sith Lord’s Hall of Fame..

Sith Lord’s Verdict:
Food – 6
Ambience – 7
Price – 3 (Pricey!!)
Service – 4
